Substitute Teachers

Thank you for your interest in substitute teaching in the Harrisonville School District. To be a substitute teacher, you must have a Substitute Teaching Certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and successfully complete a FBI/Highway Patrol background check.
You can qualify for a Substitute Certificate in three ways...- Completion of a minimum of 36 semester hours of credit from a regionally accredited, academic degree-granting, college or university. Verification of these hours must be provided with an original transcript from each institution the applicant has attended.
- Completion of 20 hours of online training (cost is $180)
- Hold a Missouri teaching certificate
Substitute teacher pay is a maximum of $110/day. Harrisonville Schools uses an automated system to schedule substitute teachers. More information about our Absence Management System will be provided when the application to substitute teach has been accepted.
Substitute Teaching Certificate
To obtain a substitute teaching certificate, visit the DESE website to apply: https://dese.mo.gov/educator-quality/certification/substitute-teachers. If you are a certified teacher in the State of Missouri, you do not need a substitute certificate.Fingerprint Background CheckTo be fingerprinted for the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education through 3M/Cogent, you must first register with MACHS at www.machs.mo.gov. You will be required to provide the appropriate 4-digit registration code for Harrisonville Schools:0385 - use for substitute teachers onlyTo Apply: complete a Substitute Teacher application packet and return it to the Central Office located at 503 S. Lexington.
