Miller, Overbay named December Students of the Month

Katelyn Miller and Steven Overbay

The Harrisonville High School Students of the Month for December are Katelyn Miller and Steven Overbay. Miller and Overbay were nominated by the high school staff for this award.

Miller is the daughter of Douglas and Susan Miller.

She is involved in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Traction, Key Club, National Honor Society, girls’ soccer, and girls’ wrestling.

She is the president of FCCLA, secretary of Traction, captain girls’ soccer, and captain girls’ wrestling. She is also a communications intern supporting McEowen Elementary School.

She has earned numerous awards in soccer and wrestling including Newcoming of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Valuable Player, All-District First Team (twice); All-Conference Second Team (twice), All-Region Team, and All-State Honorable Mention in soccer. In wrestling, she earned the Hustle Award.

Outside of school, Miller is a youth soccer coach and she plays club soccer.

Her hobbies include playing soccer and spending time with family and friends.

After high school, Miller plans on attending Wayne State College and playing soccer while studying in the pre-physical therapy program.

Overbay is the son of Dan and Stephanie Overbay.

He is involved in Key Club, National Honor Society, track, and cross country.

Overbay is captain of the cross country team and serves as Division one Lieutenant Governor for the Missouri-Arkansas Key Club District.

He is the recipient of the Katie Rios scholarship and a three-time All-Conference, All-District, and State qualifier for cross country. He has earned letters in academics, track, and cross country. 

Outside of school, he has worked at Branding Iron BBQ for two years.

He enjoys running, swimming, traveling, volunteering, and spending time with friends and family.

Overbay plans to attend UMKC under their Pharmacy assurance program and earn his doctorate specializing in helping kidney transplant patients. 

The HHS Students of the Month are selected on the basis of character, citizenship, and academics.
