December has arrived and with it the end of the 1st semester is quickly coming to an end.
Here are a few reminders and upcoming events:
11th graders - - Scholarship opportunity!! Coolidge Scholarship
the Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride, four-year, merit scholarship that may be used by recipients for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university in the United States. Any high school junior who plans on enrolling in college in the fall of 2020 and is an American citizen or legal permanent resident is eligible to apply (unfortunately current high school seniors are not eligible to apply) Click on the following link for more information and the application. https://coolidgescholars.org/ Deadline is January 23rd, 2019.
9th and 11th graders - Scholarship opportunity! We are excited to share a great scholarshipopportunity for current 9th and 11th graders as well as adults looking to return to college to complete their degree.
The KC Scholars scholarship application opens on January 1 and the deadline to apply is March 1, 2019.
- Traditional Scholarship – For current 11th graders – at least 250 selected to receive up to a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to 5 years.
- College Savings Account/Match – For current 9th graders – up to 500 students selected to receive $50 in a 529 college savings account and at least 50 students selected to receive up to $7,000 of match and incentive funds.
- Adult Learner Scholarship – For adults with some college but no degree – and starting in 2019, adults who have an associate degree and will return to complete a bachelor’s degree – up to 200 selected to receive up to a $5,000 scholarship renewable for up to 5 years

10th and 11th Graders - RYLA Applications are available: Missouri RYLA Academy is a 4 day/3 night program for High School Sophomores and Juniors who exhibit a desire for community service. The program will identify and enhance the qualities of Servant Leadership, train them on how to successfully implement a service project, and inspire them to live a lifetime of “service Above Self.”. Students will be exposed to all the programs and values Rotary has to offer. The Academy has trained and inspired more than 2500 students state wide and is a model for RYLA Academies worldwide. There are 2 dates to choose from: June 23-26, 2019 , and RYLA 2 date: July 7-10, 2018.
Applications for this awesome experience are attached and need to be submitted to Jill Filer by December 14th.
10th and 11th Graders- Summit Technology Academy (STA) Opportunity- Students from HHS will have the opportunity to apply to STA for next school year. The assistant principal from STA will be presenting to interested sophomores and juniors, who have a 2.5 GPA or higher. She will be presenting on January 8th during 4th hour. Applications for STA will open after the presentation and close February 8th. Scholarship for Dual Credit UCM Students for 2nd Semester: If you are taking a Dual Credit class 2nd semester through UCM there is a scholarship application form available from Mrs. Zaring.. Due date for the application is December 11th to Mrs. Zaring. The UCM Committee that reviews the application will weigh the financial need aspect fairly heavily.
ACT Test: The test will be given on December 8th - registration for this test is now closed. The next available test date is February 9th with registration ending on January 11th (This test is not given at Harrisonville High School). Go to www.actstudent.org to register.
For those students planning on taking Dual credit college Algebra next semester keep in mind that you must have a 22 on the Math section of the ACT. If you have a score of 19-21, then you must also have a B average in Algebra 2.
Job Postings: We now have a place on our school website for businesses to post jobs and students to find jobs that our looking. See the attached Flyer for more information.
