About Us
In Harrisonville, we are all Wildcats. The district, which includes approximately 2,150 students and 300 staff members, is composed of six schools. Our schools are organized as attendance centers meaning that all students in each grade go to the same school. This provides for collaboration between grade-level teachers and sharing of resources. Students also move through our schools from K-12th grade with their classmates.
The district is a proud partner in the Kauffman Foundation’s Real World Learning initiative which seeks to provide students with opportunities to earn market value assets prior to graduation. Market Value Assets include work experiences such as internships and client-connected projects, college credits, industry recognized credentials, or entrepreneurial experiences.
Pride in academics and pride in our Wildcats creates a community-wide, intergenerational involvement in our schools. From sporting events to band concerts to plays, programs, and awards assemblies, our community embraces our youth and supports our schools. This support is consistently cited as one of the top reasons to be a Wildcat.
The community support was displayed through the passage of a $22.7 million bond issue and a 50 cent levy increase in June 2020. The levy enabled the district to increase staff salaries and the bond work improved safety and security and meet maintenance and facility needs throughout the district. The ballot measures were the outcome of community input as part of the district’s strategic planning process which led to our focus area development (see above).
Our staff and students value our community’s support and therefore, put an emphasis on giving back to the community. Our district staff and senior class participate in Days of Service; our entire district donates food to the local pantry during an annual food drive; and classroom and building level projects help show our students the benefits of community service.
Our students have many opportunities to get involved with their interests. Our K-12 fine arts program involves elementary grade-level music/drama programs; specialized music groups at all levels; instrumental music beginning in fifth grade; theatrical productions in middle and high school; and art showcases at all levels. Students can also be involved in school athletics beginning in seventh grade. At the high school level, there are a variety of clubs and organizations to encourage involvement by all.
Our schools go beyond K-12 to ensure all Wildcats can learn and grow. Our Parents As Teacher program works with children and their parents beginning at birth. Our free preschool program provides three and four-year-olds with school experiences and learning before kindergarten. And our career and technical school, Cass Career Center, offers community education courses in both the fall and spring, as well as an outstanding Practical Nursing program.
In addition to the adult learning opportunities, the Cass Career Center serves not only our high school students, but students from ten area high schools in 11 career and technical programs. These programs offer students industry certifications and college credit in areas including agriculture, criminal justice/CSI, fire science, EMT, health services, construction, marketing, automotive technology, teaching, and welding.
