Thank you for your interest in substitute teaching in the Harrisonville School District. To be a substitute teacher, you must have a Substitute Teaching Certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and successfully complete a FBI/Highway Patrol background check.
You can qualify for a Substitute Certificate in three ways...
Substitute teacher pay is a maximum of $110/day. Harrisonville Schools uses an automated system to schedule substitute teachers. More information about our Absence Management System will be provided when the application to substitute teach has been accepted.
- Completion of a minimum of 36 semester hours of credit from a regionally accredited, academic degree-granting, college or university. Verification of these hours must be provided with an original transcript from each institution the applicant has attended.
- Completion of 20 hours of online training (cost is $180)
- Hold a Missouri teaching certificate
Substitute Teaching Certificate
To obtain a substitute teaching certificate, visit the DESE website to apply: https://dese.mo.gov/educator-quality/certification/substitute-teachers. If you are a certified teacher in the State of Missouri, you do not need a substitute certificate.Fingerprint Background CheckTo be fingerprinted for the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education through 3M/Cogent, you must first register with MACHS at www.machs.mo.gov. You will be required to provide the appropriate 4-digit registration code for Harrisonville Schools:0385 - use for substitute teachers only
To Apply: complete a Substitute Teacher application packet and return it to the Central Office located at 503 S. Lexington.
