Substitute Teachers

  • Thank you for your interest in substitute teaching in the Harrisonville School District. To be a substitute teacher, you must have a Substitute Teaching Certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and successfully complete a FBI/Highway Patrol background check. 

     
    Substitute teacher pay is $12.50/hour up to a maximum of $100/day.  Harrisonville Schools uses an automated system to schedule substitute teachers.   More information about our Absence Management System will be provided when the application to substitute teach has been accepted.

    Substitute Teaching Certificate

    To obtain a substitute teaching certificate, visit the DESE website to apply:   https://dese.mo.gov/.   If you are a certified teacher in the State of Missouri, you do not need a substitute certificate.

    Fingerprint Background Check
    To be fingerprinted for the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education through 3M/Cogent, you must first register with MACHS at www.machs.mo.gov.  You will be required to provide the appropriate 4-digit registration code for Harrisonville Schools:
     
    0385  - use for substitute teachers only
     
    *NEW* for 2020-21
    A Content Substitute certificate may also be granted to an individual who has a high school diploma, General Education Diploma (GED) or High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) and has successfully completed a minimum of twenty (20) clock hours of department-approved substitute teacher training.     To Apply:  complete an application packet and return it to the Central Office located at 503 S. Lexington.

    You may pick up the packet at the Central Office or request that a packet be mailed to you by calling (816) 380-2727.
