President Jerald Dickey called the meeting to order.

Consent Agenda

Resignation of Support Staff – Kimberly Bishop, HHS custodian

Employment of Support Staff - Ronnie Bulen - Custodian at McEowen, Lona Warren - Custodian at HHS, Ray Fishbaugh - Custodian at HHS

Board members received reports from the building's regarding attendance at Parent-Teacher Conferences.
HHS – 55%
HMS – 70%
McEowen – 92%
HES – 97%
ECC – 95%

The Consent Agenda was approved 7-0.

Delegations/Recognitions/Communications

Board member Dave Kauffman noted the move to a paperless system for board meetings. The Board is using a software service called BoardDocs.

Board member Nancy Shelton congratulated the football team on their quarterfinal win.

Board member Chad Reynolds commented on the band's benefit concert.

Board member Dave Kauffman complimented the students and staff involved in the high school musical production of “Honk.”

Board president attended the three-year-old fall party and complimented preschool teacher Jamie Garrison on her work with the children.

BeLinda DeVore, vice president of PTO, provided an update to the Board on the organization's activities.

Harrisonville Middle School student Sam Cooper was the student representative to the Board of Education for November.

Harrisonville High School Library Media Specialist Vickie Hamilton recognized HHS senior Brian Hawkins for being selected as one of the national winners in the 2005 National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing.

Harrisonville High School Principal Kelly Harris recognized HHS senior Stephanie Morris as a Commended Student in the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Communications

Board members shared information from the MSBA/MASA conference which they attended at the end of October.

Board members approved payment of the 2006 Membership Dues to MSBA for a period of 18 months in the amount of $8,693.00. The vote was 7-0.

The board established Tuesday, December 13, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. as the filing dates for candidates to the Harrisonville Cass R-IX Board of Education elecction Tuesday, April 4, 2006 . Two three-year terms are to be filled. Board members whose terms expire are Jerald Dickey and Chad Reynolds.

Public Relations Coordinator Jill Filer reported that the district's 2004-05 Report Card information will be available on the district's website.

Board members nominated Bill Filer, Dave Kauffman, and Nancy Shelton to review applications and select the Harrisonville High School senior as the Board's representative as the Region 4 applicant for the John T. Belcher Scholarship.

Each building administrator provided a report from his/her building.

Teaching/Learning/Public Interest

Director of Curriculum and Instruction Shari Osborn provided an overview of the Library Media Services program in the district. All district library media specialists were on hand to answer questions.

Board members approved the administration's request to enter into a contract with Newton Learning for the 2006 Summer School Program. The vote was 7-0.

Superintendent Todd White provided board members with information on the Newton After-School Program which district administrators are investigating.

Board members pproved the following recommended changes of policies listed as recommended by MSBA: BBF, BBFA, GBCA, GBEA, GBEBA, GBEBB, GBEBC, GCD, GCG, GDC , IND , JECA. The vote was 7-0.

Personnel

The Board approved the 2005-2006 substitute teaching list as indicated in the “No Child Left Behind” legislation. Board members Scott Milner and Joe Price abstained due to their relationships with persons on the substitute list. The vote was 5-0.

The board established December 20, 2005 at 5:30 p.m. prior to the regular board meeting for the Personnel Performance Review.
