Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament 2011
The Harrisonville Public School Foundation raised nearly $5,000 at its recent Alumni and Friends Golf Tournament.  The tournament was part of the Homecoming festivities for Harrisonville High School.

The Foundation will use the proceeds to fund its programming including teacher grants, the Advanced Degree Teacher Initiative, Food 4 Thought backpack program, and scholarships.  The Foundation has presented over $13,500 through its Advanced Degree Teacher Initiative which reimburses district teachers for Master’s degree coursework and over $44,000 in teacher grants.  In June, the Foundation awarded $10,000 in scholarships to four-year Excellence in Academics recipients at HHS.

The winning four-some was sponsored by Power Group Companies. 

In the B Flight the team sponsored by Cretcher-Heartland and Midwest Restoration Technologies won.

Winning the Closest to the Pin contest was Mark Rice.  The Women’s Longest Drive winner was Deb Welhoff and the Men’s Longest Driver winner was Blake Mills.
 
Sixty-one participants competed in the four-person scramble tournament on Friday, September 30. 
 
The True Wildcat event sponsor was Dr. & Mrs. Shaun Holden.  Royal Blue tournament sponsors were Cass Regional Medical Center, Midwest Restoration Technologies/Cretcher-Heartland, MIS Technologies, Church & Dwight, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Family Center, and Power Group.  The drink cart sponsor was American Heritage Realty.

Catch the Spirit 5K Walk/Run

The Harrisonville Public School Foundation and the Harrisonville High School Freshman Mentoring Program raised nearly $2,500 at the 4th Annual Catch the Spirit 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, October 1.  Over 90 people took part in the event to benefit the Foundation and the Christina Collins Memorial Scholarship. 

Winning the event was Zach Feurt of Garden City.  The overall female winner was Mary Hartzler of Harrisonville,

Winners were also recognized in four age groups. 

The Royal Blue ($500) sponsor for the was PowerGroup.  White ($100) sponsors included Wildcat Car Wash, DW Auto Repair, Super Auto Sales, Atkinson Funeral Home, Dickey, Humbard & Bowes, and Pro-Turf Lawn Service.

The Harrisonville High School Freshman Mentoring Program will use its portion of the proceeds to fund the Christina Collins Memorial Scholarship.  Christina Collins was a 2006 graduate of Harrisonville High School who died in a car accident in the spring of 2007.  While in high school, Collins was a member of the marching band, tutoring, the Freshman Mentoring Program, cheerleading and softball.

2011 Excellence in Academics Program

Seniors
Harrisonville High School seniors were honored as part of a new event on their final day of school.  The Senior Excellence in Academics Ceremony, a joint effort of Harrisonville High School and the Harrisonville Public School Foundation, recognized Excellence in Academics recipients, as well as scholarship winners.  The daytime assembly was attended by the entire HHS student body, parents, and community members.

The Foundation’s Excellence in Academics program honors students who complete the year in the top 15% of their class.  Those seniors honored as first-year Excellence in Academics recipients were Jamie Black, Mitchell Perne, Rachel Price, Katie Vignery, and Karson Wilson.  Second year recipients were Seth Brown, Ethan Eckert, and Lora McCoy.  Those honored as third-year recipients were Lyndsey Carter, Julie Simmons, Micaela Vaccaro, and Molly Williams.

The four-year recipients were presented $500 scholarships from the Foundation and included Chance Alexander, Sara Clarke, Alex Erickson, Clint Harkrader, Meghan Hestand, Kyle Jaynes, Kayla Kendrick, Dillon Kliewer, Jessica Mathes, Mitchell Morse, Josh Oryall, Victoria Reeves, Sarah Roth, Elizabeth Rudell, Tiffany Sujkowski, Tanner Sutton, Logan Vassholz, Sadie Welhoff, and Zach Wright.

 

Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors
Over 200 Harrisonville High School students were honored for their academic achievement at an assembly during the first week of classes.  The Excellence in Academics Assembly recognized students who earned an academic letter and those who earned the Excellence in Academics medallion during the 2010-2011 school year.  The assembly was co-sponsored by the Harrisonville Public School Foundation and the HHS Academic Booster Club.  The daytime assembly was attended by the entire HHS student body, parents, and community members.

The Foundation’s Excellence in Academics program honors students who complete the year in the top 15% of their class.  Those students receive the Excellence in Academics medallion.
