The
role of a counselor
at Harrisonville High School is to implement the Missouri Model Guidance Program through:
Helping students develop career/life skills
Supporting student academic achievement
Providing individual and group counseling to students
Providing support during any crisis situation
Working with community agencies
Working with parents, teachers, support staff and the community
The
counseling program
is designed to be comprehensive and developmental. Counselors address the needs of all students in the following areas: Career planning and exploration, Knowledge of self and others, and Educational and vocational development. The program is proactive and preventative and has four components.
Guidance Curriculum--structured developmental experiences
Individual Planning--activities that help all students plan, monitor and manage their own learning, including personal and career development
Responsive Services--activities to meet immediate needs and concerns of students, whether these needs or concerns require counseling, consultation, referral or information
System Support--management activities that establish, maintain and enhance the total guidance program
