Writing is an important skill that sometimes gets forgotten with technological advances. On this page, I will let you know what skills we are working on learning as a class and I will let you know how you can help your child at home become the best author they can!
Writing Unit: Writing Fiction
Writing fiction may seem easy to some students, but it can be difficult to create a character and an entire fictional story. We will discuss what strong authors do to create their character. We will also discuss how to create a story mountain to have a strong story that includes all of the elements of strong fictional writing. We will also review some writing strategies that we learned from our last unit, such as creating a strong lead to pull the reader in and drafting our story to zoom in on the most important parts. Students will learn that talented authors show their reader instead of telling their reader about the actions or feelings of the characters. In this unit, we will also focus much more on making a strong ending that lets the reader know the piece is done. Near the end of the unit, we will learn about reading our piece of writing through different lenses depending on what we want to work on as an author. We will learn that it's important to read through our work to look for mistakes many times.
